    Predictable, slow, monotonous. Its annoying how even when switching from past and present tense, the author also switches from first person to third person. At first, this is confusing when trying to get the characters straight, but then it becomes repetitive in how the story unfolds. The first two hundred pages could have been told in twenty. It’s so bad, I stopped reading the book and I can’t remember the last time I did that. I kept hoping things would pick up, then realized I was wasting my time and now I don’t even care what happens to the characters. Don’t waste your money, it was on sale for a reason.

    This book was well written and her writing is easy to understand. It kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through to the surprise ending, which I never saw coming. Read this...You won’t be sorry or disappointed!

    This book is a great read. I didn’t give it five stars because it’s not one of my all time favorites. BUT I did stay up late and get up early to see what happened next. There are lots of twists and turns and interesting details that keep popping up in the story. I recommend this book.

All opinions expressed in this review are my own. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ WOW, what a rollercoaster ride!! I really “felt” the thrills and excitement of Ms Hayes’s latest book, Date Night, as the plot developed and thickened. The story was original and fast paced, with each new page turning up another twist or devious turn! The characters were well defined and were relatable. Emotions, some good, and others not, are evoked as the reader understands the true nature of each person in the story. My feelings for most characters evolved as the story progressed, as motives, secrets, and deceptions were revealed. I will admit, I was very snookered by this novel. Many red herrings and surprises galore. Date Nights are usually considered to be fun filled events, greatly anticipated, where happy memories are created. But the date night shared by the main character, Libby and her husband, Sean? NOT!! It was not only disastrous, but as a result lives were destroyed, there was a murder by the end of the night, and deeply hidden secrets were eventually revealed at a great cost to all. The end of the book was so shocking and unexpected that it hit me like a ton of bricks! Literally, I had to go back and reread the Epilogue to be sure I could believe my eyes. I definitely recommend this book to those who love a great twisty mystery, and love to be surprised! In my opinion, one of the best in this genre.

    Wow! I absolutely did not see that twist at the end. Libby finds a note on her car stating that her husband Sean is cheating on her. He insists that it is not true and wants to take her on a date night to make up for it and show her that he loves her. Sean’s mother Marion usually babysits but she had a church event and so they had Sasha, a seventeen year old who helps Libby out with her dinner business, babysit their daughter Alice. But Libby is consumed by the note and Sean’s suspicious behavior, such as not answering calls and deleting his texts and call log when Libby asks to see his phone. This animosity ruins the dinner and causes them to head home in a taxi, not speaking to each other. The night only gets worse when they return from dinner to find their babysitter, Sasha missing. Tensions rise as Libby, Sean and Alice are forced out of their home as the police bring in a forensics team to search for clues of Sasha’s disappearance. They go and stay at Sean’s parents and try to get on with their lives but Libby can’t accept that Sean isn’t cheating on her and she is suspicious of everyone. Could it be Sean’s ex wife Natalie who still hasn’t accepted their divorce many years later, Libby’s best friend Fran, or could it be the missing teen Sasha, or someone else?     Date Night by Samantha Hayes A note left on Libby’s windshield drives this story, which will be difficult to review without spoilers. Let’s just say that this note about her husband Sean is the catalyst for suspicion, police questioning, searches for a missing person and secrets not revealed until the very end. All the drama begins when an intended date night dinner to discuss said note ends badly for all, particularly Sasha, Libby’s babysitter for daughter Alice.The author gives you parts of the story, filling in with new information in later chapters. I very much liked this writing technique, as things you believed had happened turned out to be much more complicated. The characters are good, the writing is good and the story is good, but I’m not sure there was enough tension to call the story a psychological thriller. It was good enough, however, to get 4 stars from this reviewer.

    STUNNED !! It is not often that a book takes a turn that I absolutely did not expect - and I LOVE IT!! It all starts when Libby finds a note on her car telling her that her husband is having an affair... the story unfolds and the plot thickens new clues emerge and the reader is left with deciphering each clue and how it relates to the story. What is true? Who is telling the truth? Pick up this book if you are looking for a rollercoaster ride that will leave you hanging on until the very end! 4.5/5
